According to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, this is used for saying that you want something so much that you do not care how much it costs.
We grew up in a humble home where luxuries were few. I think I heard Dad say this when Mother finally got her driver’s license at 54 years old and insisted they purchase a small car.
No canaries were harmed in posting this tidbit. No cats were treated to small, feathered critters either.
